THE TRUE SUPER ETENDARD
-----------------------

History
-------

As an updated version of the Etendard IV, the Super Etendard flew for the first time in October 1974 and was introduced into service in June 1978.

It is a carrier-based single-seat strike fighter. Its turbo jet is more powerful than the Etendard one, wing flaps and slats systems have been improved and a modern navigation and combat management system was set up, including a multimode Agave radar and a countermeasures set.

Apart from 5 aircraft leased to Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s, 14 Super Etendard were delivered to Argentina in and after November 1981. Five of them took part in the Falklands War of 1982. Argentine aircraft carrying Exocet missiles sank two British ships : the destroyer "Sheffield" (4,500 tons) and the "Atlantic Conveyor" (15,000 tons).

In France, about 50 aircraft out of the 71 serving in the 11F, 14F and 17F squadrons of the French Navy were improved in order to carry the nuclear missile ASMP. This modernized version, with updated avionics and a new Anémone radar, flew in October 1990. Nowadays, the Super Etendard is the main attack force aboard the French carrier "Charles de Gaulle". A second modernization program of 54 Super Etendard ( called "Super Etendard Modernisé" or "SEM" ) began in 1992 and will allow them to serve in the 11F and 17F squadrons up to 2008. Then, they will probably be replaced by Rafale M.

FS MODEL
--------

Sound
-----

By default, this aircraft uses the sound of the Learjet 45.

However, as the Super Etendard has the same engine as the Mirage F1 (without the afterburner), I recommend that you use the sound of the Mirage F1 by Kirk Olsson if you have it.
To do so, open the "sound.cfg" file of the "sound" folder and replace :
[fltsim]
alias=lear45\sound
by :
[fltsim]
alias=f1cr\sound (if you have not called the Mirage F1 folder "f1cr", modify the line accordingly)

If you don't have Kirk Olsson's Mirage F1, you can download it from "Mirage Aircraft" website (http://www.mirage4fs.com).

Installation
------------

Extract "sem.zip" file to your "fs2002" folder.

WARNING: To work properly, the radar requires FSUIPC module, version 2.87 or higher.
You can download it on Pete Dowson's website (http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html).

Panel and virtual cockpit
-------------------------

It is the panel of a Super Etendard Modernisé (standard 4) adapted for FS 2002.
For more information about the panel usage, refer to the "panel_doc_english.gif" file.

The panel includes an interception radar which shows aircraft driven by the AI. It needs FSUIPC.
For more information about the radar usage, refer to the "panel_doc_radar.gif" file and Eric Marciano's website: http://emarciano.free.fr (look for "Mirage 4000"/"radar documentation")

Some radar functions are accessible through the following keys:
- (numpad) / : Previous radar mode
- (numpad) * : Next radar mode
- (numpad) - : Decrease radar range
- (numpad) + : Increase radar range

Fuel
----

In order not to make too many versions, the three included here use the same flight file. As a result, the external fuel tanks have the capacity of the biggest ones on the three planes.

To make more realistic flight, when you use a version different from the n°15 which has heavy tanks, you may want to empty manually the auxiliary tanks in the "fuel" menu of FS 2002 :
- with n°31, empty completely these tanks (no external fuel tanks).
- with the Argentinean airplane, set the level to 54% (or less) in the auxiliary tanks (54% is the max capacity of the light tanks carried by this version).

You will find these figures again in the description section of the aircraft in FS 2002.

Smoke System
------------

The smoke system, usually activated by the 'I' key, works differently on this aircraft.
It works automatically to show vapor trails when the aircraft is under high acceleration (high G force). Don't try to activate the smoke manually, it will not work.
This system has been set up by E.Marciano.
